The Only Websites You Need for Booking Accommodations in Italy

The three websites I use

These are the only three websites that I use for booking all accommodations when I’m traveling in Italy. If I’m looking for a hotel, hostel, house, or anything in between in Italy – whether in Rome, Florence, Venice, or the Amalfi Coast, there are the websites I use. 

Booking.com (link)

Booking.com includes hotels, hostels, private rooms, and everything in between. I don’t personally love the interface, the sheer volume of properties on Booking.com makes it a great resource and can be used as your single resource for finding accommodations. Also they have their Genius program which gets you higher discount levels the more you book through them.

Hostelworld (link)

When it comes to hostels, there’s a spectrum. I don’t mean bad to great (though that exists). I mean that, I’ve stayed in places booked through Hostelworld that are more like hotels with private rooms, but maybe they have a shared bathroom (like Tourist House Liberty in Florence). Or they have private rooms with bathrooms, or dorm rooms with shared bathrooms more like a traditional hostel. In sum – they’re all different, and most have options. If you’re on a tight budget, staying in dorms is the way to go. I find the Hostelworld interface clean and easy to use.

AirBNB (link)

I don’t need to say much about AirBNB. Unfortunately, they don’t have an affiliate program so I can’t earn a commission should you decide to book through a link on my site. But for honesty, I should say that I use AirBNB quite a bit. In fact there was a period a few months ago where I had 12 future trips on my AirBNB profile. That being said, it does tend to be getting more expensive relative to what I find on Booking.com, especially when you consider that there is no discount program. So I’m using AirBNB less and less, unfortunately.

Note that you will sometimes see the same property two or all three of these websites. In my experience, while you can see the same property on all three sites, Hostelworld is more hostel-focused, Booking.com is more hotel-focused, and AirBNB is more independent owner-focused.
